The Passover

This morning I realized that my perspective on the tenth and final plague was off. I have thought that placing the blood on the doorposts meant that the firstborn wouldn’t die.

But when the Passover came, thousands of years later, Jesus the firstborn over all creation died in the place of everyone who kept the Passover by faith.

The judgment and death that swept through Egypt that night was finally and fully sated with the death of Jesus. Though suspended for thousands of years, the judgment was carried out.

And the death of Jesus was more than enough to satisfy the angel of death in Egypt. It was too small a thing to only save Israel. The death of Jesus bears the punishment for all sins. And the blood of Jesus is the sign for all who look to him for salvation.
